Hydraulic hoses and fittings from Koman: Blood Vessels of Industry - Newsweek
The heartbeat of industry pulses through the veins of machinery, with innovative hydraulic hoses and fittings breathing life into the world's most vital sectors. Each precisely crafted component ensures the seamless movement of giant limbs in construction, agriculture and beyond. Just as blood sustains human vitality, this technology propels the engines of progress, connecting the future with every pulse. Through the arteries of its groundbreaking hoses and fittings, KOMAN guarantees that the world moves, thrives and evolves. Founded in 1981, KOMAN is a leading supplier of hydraulic hoses and fittings for industry. Building strong relationships with Korean industry giants, KOMAN is looking internationally to the tech revolution to continue its growth.
Company President Deok Woo Kim says KOMAN plans to leverage its expertise to expand into untapped regions such as Europe and the Middle East. Competing against global brands brings its own challenges, and to address this, all KOMAN products meet or exceed its competitors'. "By consistently delivering high-quality products to these global firms, we aim to showcase our capabilities and build our reputation," he says. It also is partnering with prominent international companies to build trust. To raise its profile, KOMAN is actively participating in industry events around the globe to demonstrate its quality and reliability. "Whether it's co-developing new technologies, sharing expertise, or joint ventures, we believe that adapting to the fast-paced changes of today's world necessitates working closely with diverse global partners," he says.
Electrification is a key growth opportunity for KOMAN. Electrical infrastructure such as datacenters and fast-charging stations generate heat that needs to be managed. KOMAN's vast expertise in hydraulics and industrial fluid hoses paired with its exceptional R&D capabilities allow it to adapt quickly to emerging technologies. In Kim's view, electrification complements traditional technology and KOMAN will continue to invest in R&D and adapt to the evolving landscape. With the explosion in IT growth and the mass uptake of AI, demands for innovation in the IT sector are increasing. KOMAN's Hydrochill, an advanced cooling hose for datacenters and high-performance electronics, has already been integrated into a major global company's datacenter. Kim believes that AI-driven industries and renewable energy, like hydrogen, will serve as the foundation for KOMAN's future growth.
KOMAN's competitive edge is its adaptability and ability to meet its client's needs. Kim describes how across industries it leverages its impressive R&D capabilities to overcome unique client challenges. With an early deployment of its Hydrochill hoses, a client had unique demands with a datacenter. KOMAN's team quickly responded and delivered a result that met the client's needs. He also gives an example of frequent breakages of welded fittings in the shale gas industry. In response, KOMAN developed one body rotary fitting that didn't require welding and received significant industry recognition. As he explains, "Whether it's developing entirely new products or improving existing ones, our client-focused approach drives our R&D efforts and underpins our success."
To accommodate its growth, KOMAN is investing heavily in new factory space and automation to improve its capacity. Kim explains, "The primary motivation for this investment was to proactively address increasing market demand and solidify our position as a leading provider in our industry." Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it automated assembly lines to reduce labor and improve efficiency and consistency across its operations. It has also opened a second hose manufacturing factory that boasts three times the capacity of the first. Furthermore, it is preparing for the future by acquiring a new factory site on an adjacent plot to support next-generation growth industries. KOMAN is not only building its manufacturing capacity of hydraulic hoses and fittings, but also its flexibility, to better serve customer needs and position itself for future growth. "We believe that meeting customer satisfaction requires not only delivering high-quality products but also providing timely and reliable service through continuous improvement and investment," he says.
With such a vital role in industry, KOMAN is continuing to adapt to emerging technologies, meet new requirements and overcome regulatory challenges. Its hydraulic hoses and fittings serve as the lifeblood of machinery, akin to blood vessels in the body. As Kim puts it, "Just as blood enables movement and vitality, our hydraulic solutions power the movement of equipment across industries."
